Filson Henley Guide Sweater
“Is it a favorite sweater or a lifelong companion? Definitely both. And I love the way the waxed cotton on the arms gets nicer and nicer with wear.” /Ulf
The Filson Henley Guide Sweater, originally conceived by and for waterfowl hunters, is sewn in the USA with 100% merino wool. The waxed-cotton cape , made with our signature oil finish Shelter Cloth from the United Kingdom’s iconic British Millerain, adds a whole new level of water resistance and durability. The four-button placket provides ventilation, and the right shoulder shooting patch eases the bite of hot 12-guage duck loads.
The USA-sourced wool comes from merino sheep prized for their long, fine fleece with a wavy crimp that results in a fabric that’s soft and sturdy, with natural memory and shape retention. Merino wool fibers are an incredibly complex structure, with thousands of tiny filaments sheathed within overlapping scales that are naturally water repellent. This allows water to bead up on the surface. Any moisture that does penetrate the fiber is wicked to the tips and evaporates away. This capillary action is what allows wool to absorb up to 30% of its own weight in water without feeling damp or clammy.
The fine merino fleece is twisted into extremely tight, firm yarns before knitting, which creates surprising density and a smooth, non-scratchy surface that resists pilling. Rib-knit cuffs, waist and collar provide durable shape retention for years of reliability.
